Catching up on WUSTL Soccer Games

It is so easy to fall behind processing and uploading photos from the WUSTL soccer games. When games are at night, it can be especially hard to get to the photos considering I may not get home until 10pm. Plus it is not uncommon to shoot upwards of 300-500 photos per game. All of those factors seem to be the perfect recipe for procrastination.

But no more. I buckled down and got through the most recent games, including JV matches against the Wash U Club team and Webster. Plus I had photos from two varsity games, Carnegie Mellon University and Case Western Reserve.

Whew. It feels good to be caught up.

GATE at the Art Museum

On Wednesday I got to take a day off from work and join Mia with her GATE (Gifted And Talented Education) class to the St. Louis Art Museum. It was fun and pretty interesting to help my group of kids work through their assignments. Of course I brought my camera.

In GATE this year, the fourth graders are studying four different ancient cultures, Egypt, Africa, China and Mesoamerica so they had an assignment to complete in each section of the museum.

Not surprisingly, they did not always want to do the work, but once they got started and built up some momentum what they came up with was pretty good.

The one piece of advice that I picked up from our art museum educator was to look at the exhibits first to really enjoy them and only if you are so inclined should you worry about reading what the curator has written.

All of my photos from the field trip are in their own Smugmug Gallery.

Storytelling in a photo about storytelling

The 11th episode of the Articulate Ventures podcast is "Storytelling, Winning Arguments & Negotiations" and once again it is my task to make a photograph that tells a story about storytelling.

I took the easy road and simply had Mia pose holding a book as if she is reading a story for the viewer. In a small homage to one of my favorite stories I had Mia hold a Calvin & Hobbes collection as her storybook. It seems right considering the upcoming release of the documentary, "Dear Mr. Watterson."

Fire Truck Photography

The U. City Fire Department visited UCCC and I was lucky enough to have my camera with me. I should really take my camera everywhere. One never knows when a cool photo will present itself. See all the photos of kids and the fire truck.
